What we have shipped

Real changes with dates, newest first.

4 October 2026

Multiple legal entities

  • Register each entity with its own PAN, TAN, GSTIN, PF and ESIC codes and assign employees to it.
  • Produce the ECR, ESIC file, bank payment file, payroll journal and Form 138 for one entity, with its own TDS challans.

4 October 2026

Alerts to Slack, Teams and webhooks

  • Post a message to Slack or Microsoft Teams, or send a signed webhook to your own system, when payroll is finalised, leave is approved, a task is assigned or a new employee is added.
  • Addresses are stored encrypted, only public https addresses are accepted, and generic webhooks carry an HMAC signature you can verify.

4 October 2026

Tasks

  • A Tasks board for everyone: to do, in progress and done, with priority, due date, optional project, and an overdue flag.
  • Managers and HR can assign a task to anyone and see every task; other people see only their own.

4 October 2026

Payroll journal for accounting

  • One balanced debit and credit voucher for each finalised month: salaries, reimbursements and employer PF and ESIC debited; salary, TDS, PF, ESIC, professional tax and welfare fund payables credited.
  • Preview it on the Payroll page, or download a CSV or a Tally import file.

4 October 2026

Compliance files checked against the official validator, and a bank payment file

  • We ran the Form 138 file through Protean’s own File Validation Utility and fixed five problems it found: record order, deductee numbering, a batch-header field, receipt-number check digit and PAN holder-type rules.
  • The ECR now warns about members aged 58 or over, whose pension contributions stop.
  • A salary bank payment file: NEFT, RTGS or IMPS list as CSV or Excel, checks for account, IFSC and payment limits, and a covering letter to the bank on your letterhead.
  • Gratuity now rounds a part-year up only when it is more than six months, as the Act says.
  • We removed claims that the product did not back up, such as WhatsApp reminders and an unsupported security certification, and added a glossary of payroll terms and a compact footer.

4 October 2026

Payroll check before you finalise

  • A new payroll check reviews the processed month: net-pay swings with the cause, PF, ESIC and professional tax that differ from the rules for that month, missing UAN, ESIC number or bank details, duplicate bank accounts and people missing from the run.
  • Every finding shows the figures it compared and what to do. It changes nothing.
  • An optional AI summary rewrites the findings in plain language. It never sees names or bank details, its figures are checked against the findings, and it is off unless enabled.

4 October 2026

Expense claims are reimbursed through payroll

  • Finance-approved expense claims are paid with the next payroll run, as a separate line on the payslip.
  • Reimbursements stay out of gross pay, PF wages and tax, and a claim is never paid twice, even if payroll is reprocessed.
  • Finance can record a claim that was paid by bank transfer, so payroll does not repay it.
  • The payslip total now adds up when arrears, bonus, overtime or reimbursements are included.

3 October 2026

Free calculators, guides and an IT services page

  • Free in-hand salary, professional tax, gratuity, income tax and HRA calculators, running on the payroll engine.
  • Four India compliance guides, each with its source and date.
  • A public statutory accuracy page listing what is verified and what is not.
  • Gratuity for fixed-term employees after one year; employment type added to the employee form.

3 October 2026

Professional tax and labour welfare fund by state

  • Professional tax rebuilt per state: monthly, half-yearly and yearly salary bases, Maharashtra gender slabs, February and March instalments, and the states that do not levy it.
  • Madhya Pradesh’s higher instalment moved to March; Chhattisgarh treated as exempt for salaried employees.
  • Labour welfare fund by state, off until a company turns it on, with a payslip line and a state-wise dues statement.

3 October 2026

PF ceiling, labour codes and surcharge

  • PF wage ceiling of ₹25,000 from the September 2026 salary month.
  • Labour-code wage definition (50% rule) for PF, gratuity and leave encashment, switchable per company.
  • Income tax surcharge with marginal relief in payroll and in the employee tax estimate.
  • Payslip benefits show the 0.5% EDLI contribution.

3 October 2026

Upload-ready compliance files

  • Form 138 (earlier Form 24Q) text file for quarters 1 to 3, with challan entry and company TAN and PAN.
  • EPFO ECR 2.0 file for PF returns, rebuilt to the current layout.
  • ESIC monthly contribution file.
  • Forms now show the new number with the earlier one in brackets, for example Form 124 (Form 12BB).

3 October 2026

Standard branded documents and default policies

  • Payslip, salary structure, letters, Form 124 and Form 16 on one standard layout with the company’s own logo, signatory and footer.
  • A default policy library each company can adopt once, or replace with its own PDF or DOCX.
